Kroka uses sliding scale tuition, tuition calculators, local tuitions, and tuition-free programming in order to make our programs accessible to all families.

When these options are not adequate to meet the needs of a family that wants to come to Kroka, we offer additional support, known as "scholarships" or "financial aid" (these terms are synonymous).

What a family needs to do to received a scholarship:

Families seeking this additional support must complete and submit a Kroka scholarship application form, together with any attachments that might be required by the application form.

What Kroka staff will do upon receipt of a scholarship application:

Upon receipt of this form, our scholarship committee will meet to make a decision. The scholarship committee consists of a minimum of two staff members who have no personal connection to the family applying for financial aid. Typically each member of the committee will read the application and decide upon a suggested number of dollars in financial aid to award. Then the committee members compare their suggestions to negotiate their final offer of financial aid to the family.

Kroka's decisions to award financial aid are made by taking into account:

  • Should this student by applying for a Kroka Legacy scholarship?
  • Should this family be applying for a third-party scholarship from their school or from a state program such as "Rekindling Curiosity"
  • Does this family have grandparents or other people in their life who can help support their participation with Kroka?
  • Does this family have a past history with Kroka? (succeeding on programs, positive parent interactions)
  • Does this family seem to be stretching as far as they can to pay the most that they can afford without hardship?
  • Does this family have other skills or products that they can offer us in exchange? (farm or food barter, specialized technical skills)

Kroka's decisions to award financial aid do NOT take into account:

  • Family demographics such as race, religion, geography, etc.
  • Kroka's operating budget or the "amount of scholarship funds available to award".

IMPORTANT: Kroka does not award FULL scholarships. We ask that every family contribute some amount of financial payments to ensure that what we are offering is valued and respected and well attended.
